Podcast on Maternal Mortality

The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of any developed country, but few people know this. Until 1996, maternal death rates were gradually declining. But in 1996 that decline ended and the rate started to spiral.

Americans today are 50% more likely to die in the period surrounding childbirth than their own mothers were.

Committees of various sorts are trying to figure out what is fueling this increase. The problem is few obstetricians who actually care for pregnant women hold seats on these committees.

Dr. Lindemann has delivered over 6000 babies with no maternal deaths, no women disabled by complications of pregnancy such as stroke or kidney failure, and no babies with cerebral palsy. He speaks from the trenches.

When Hamza Davis read about Dr. Lindemann’s upcoming video course on “How to Avoid Losing Your Life in Childbirth,” he asked Dr. Lindemann to talk with him about the problems of maternal death in a podcast.

The podcast is a good preview of Dr. Lindemann’s soon-to-be-available course on maternal mortality.
